Rich heritage of Middle Dalmatia is enriched with another UNESCO World heritage site - St. Jacob’s Cathedral in Šibenik, located 74 kilometers from Split town and 46 kilometes from Trogir.
Built between 1431 and 1535, St. Jacob’s Cathedral witnessed important exchanges in the area of monumental art between North Italy, Dalmatia and Tuscany in the 15th and 16th centuries.Architects developed a structure fully made of stone, by using a unique technique for the cathedral’s dome. The result is a harmonious stone whole, arrangement methods and absolute harmony within the cathedral.
The cathedral and the nearby renaissance town hall, as well as the nearby churches, palaces, and the Prince’s Palace presently housing the County Museum, probably form Croatia’s heritage’s most beautiful square.
In the 15th and 16th centuries, Šibenik was one of Croatia’s most important human and renaissance centres.
