Charming seafront village located in deep bay on the north-eastern coast of Brac with splended secluded beaches. Povlja are surounded with olive groves and beautiful thick pine trees.
Quiet and serene.
Povlja su priobalno mjesto na otoku Braču, u Hrvatskoj. Nalaze se na sjeveroistočnoj bračkoj obali, u dubokom zatonu. Administrativno su u sastavu općine Selca.
Prema popisu stanovnika iz 2001. godine, Povlja imaju 364 stanovnika, koji se bave poljoprivredom, ribarstvom, obradom kamena i turizmom.
Crkva sv. Ivana Krstitelja podignuta je na mjestu ranokršćanske bazilike iz 5. stoljeća. Benediktinski glagoljaški samostan iz 11. stoljeća je poznat po Povaljskoj listini i Povaljskom pragu, dokumentima pisanim na arvatici.
U mjestu se nalazi najveća starokršćanska bazilika iz 5-6 st. na Braču. Povaljski prag spada među najstarije i najznačajnije epigrafske spomenike na našem jeziku ćirilicom, a Povaljska listina je najstarija sačuvana listina pisana hrvatskim jezikom ćirilićnim pismom.
Povlja is a small resort located deep in the cove of the island of Brac. The largest old Christian basilica on the island of Brac is located here, as well as some of the more valuable historical monuments such as “Povaljska listina” (the oldest preserved relic of the kind, written in our language in Cyrillic) and “Povaljski prag” (the oldest and most significant epigraph written in Croatian in Cyyillic). The town is surrounded by numerous coves with various beaches. Some of the most beautiful coves are Travna, Smokvica, Ticja Luka and Tatinja. Povlja is an ideal place for families with children, as well as for those who wish to spend their vacation in peace and quiet. Enjoy walking along the long promenades, Dalmatian specialties, cultural sites and numerous coves. Sports and recreation fans can enjoy diving, football, gondola rides, sailing as well as rent gondolas, sailing boats, scooters and boats for all-day excursions.
